Both GIF and PNG graphics formats support transparent backgrounds - however in many web browsers, including Internet Explorer, the PNG file must be 8-bit if you want transparency (not 24-bit).
Programs such as Photoshop (and Photoshop Elements) have a 'Save for web...' command which will save 8-bit transparent PNG files.
In Antenna's ClipArt\Misc folder there is a file called 'transparency test.png' which you can use for testing purposes.
Quick guide for Photoshop: Create a new image and add a new layer. Draw your graphic on the new layer (not on the background layer). Next, switch off the background layer so that the checkered pattern shows behind your graphic. Select File->Save for Web... then choose PNG-8 as your file format, and tick the 'transparency' checkbox. Finally click the OK button to save. The resulting graphic file can be imported into Antenna and will have a transparent background when used on your web pages.
