Hi. Can someone please tell me what's the maximum ATA file size. Or is there no limit to file size. I am working on an AUTO DEALER website, and due to the number of images and pages, my ATA file size is now over 300 megs. The ATA file takes very long to load or to save. I am concerned it may become corrupt. Is there any way of reducing the file size ?
Thanks in advance

First of all, check the size of your images. For a website you don't need high resolution images - those are only for printing purposes. An image for a website, that is only viewed on a screen, needs a resolution of 96 dpi, and an image size would be around 35 KB. That would mean that about 30 images takes up 1 MB. You write that your file size is now over 300 MB: does that mean that you have over 9,000 images in the site? If not, then reduce the file size of each image! That would be a good start to reduce the overall size of the ATA file and make loading and publishing a whole lot faster. Be sure to make backups!

There are a lot of galleries. Each vehicle has it own gallery. Average size of pics are around 100kb.
I currently have around 500 galleries, with a total of 6000 pics, 72dpi

Thanks a lot LOES. Seems like I have to resize images in batches and save ATA to reduce its size.
Thanks a million Regards

If I batch resize the gallery folders in the CORE folder, then open Antenna and re-save. Is this a good idea, or is there a better way ?

I think you will have to do the images before you put them in galleries.
Do a copy of ATA before you do anything

Around 1 GB ata file size will be close to critical breaking point at which the editing freezes - or you could have a much smaller ata file size but too many links and pages that will equally stretch to a critical breaking point. 100 dpi/ 1000 kb size photos are normal enough sizes even in large numbers. I recommend to anyone using many pages to see if you can instead use the master-copy page procedure - that will cut down on excesses of separate pages with lots of links on them each. It's my belief that it is excesses of page elements getting uploaded which slows things up, and pushes closer to critical breaking point of freezing. If you are aware you are close to the breaking point level while editing, make sure you save your editing session often; also consider ways to start reducing/ removing pages/ content to withdraw from the breaking point.

JOBEY, THANKS A LOT FOR THE ABOVE, VERY HELPFUL. My pleasure.... sorry for the late follow-up - my first time back in the forum for a while. As a further note to others interested in this key thread for heavy-site makers, I'm not sure, but it seems in terms of working with bloating ata files while editing, when using Windows OS, the latest Windows 10 does a better job of memory refinement/minimizing while using antenna than earlier versions. Other tips for unstressing antenna during editing of a big file, try not to have many pages open for editing at the same time. Remember - Keep saving the project every hour or so if working for a long editing session.
