I have been working on a website called www.explorezachary.com. I'm currently trying to create an online gallery and some of the artist have requested that I prevent all downloads of their work. Any ideas? I was hoping that I could input something in the "On-Mouseover" field that will remove the user ability to right click. Please help. Thanks. Travis.

There is alway a way to copy pictures. There are methods to keep users from rightclick but you can`t avoid screenshots.Best way to keep people from copying is to place some watermarks into the pictures, but I wouldn't do it ... doesn`t look that good.

Hi Travis,
Rampy is correct - a discreet copyright message and/or watermark on the pictures may be the best approach. Another possibility is to use reduced size images and perhaps lower the jpeg quality a touch - but if the idea is to show how good the pictures are then this is a bad idea.
Technical Info: When you view pictures on any web site those pictures have already been downloaded to your browser's temporary folder on your hard drive. The browser has to download the pictures in order to display them - and it keeps the pictures in a temporary folder for quick access in case the web page or pictures are requested again in the near future.
Disabling the right-click menu via a script only works if scripting is enabled, can be easily bypassed and will just annoy visitors to your site (the right-click menu is useful for other things). Some web browsers enable you to save any picture on the page without using the right-click menu at all.
A general rule to keep in mind is: Anything you make available on the public Internet can be downloaded and copied.
Cheers, Stormdance
