I created a very easy contents updater for static website. It works with Antenna's build in Iframes. It is still under development but I thought I will give you a taste of what it can do! Please keep in mind that I give you the power to change things on it and if someone makes changes that are inappropriate, it is out of my hands. Another problem might be the picture and flash sizes. If someone upload the wrong size pictures or text, things might look incorrect. For the best practice, make small changes and use the guidelines to the sizes of pictures and flash animations. Download the file below and give it a go: ezwebs.co.za/EzUpdate.ata.zip

Hi aragornsa
looks promising so far, just a few things
1. will it have the ability to move data to different locations on the page. 2. Why do you need MYSQL and php for this. There is many browser based editors that do the exact same thing with Antenna and all you need is your browser and nothing else.

Hi Graham
Good Question!
I know you can do the same with other web based software and trust me I tried a couple.
The first working prototype I created had no database but lacked the ability to choose your page setup. I then moved it to a database. There are 10 pages in this database. Each can be changed to display text, text and photos or flash. It make things easy for the developer. Later I will add a page to make these changes without manually changing the database but for now it is done in the database itself.
The whole purpose behind this was to give my clients the ability to change adverts on their site. They log in, upload the picture advert and no more phoning me to do it. Later some asked if they can update their local news box them selfs.
Things that will be added later is the ability to specify a link from the picture or flash. Admin page upgrade so you can specify what each page must house (picture, flash, text and size) Flash animation with transparent background. More pages or even the ability to create more. And any requests from buyers.
I don't know about moving data to different locations. I will look into that!

Another really good free editor I give to clients is called NVU found here www.nvudev.com/index.phpyou just install and set the ftp details for the site and then you can edit it live. I have packed this with a few websites I have designed for clients. the good thing with this is it is free and you can move content around on your page to where ever you wish.. So the bottom line is when you have you client wanting to update you you just either email them the nvu package or you can install it for them. What I usually do is either install it onsite or I remotely install it. I would still be interested in seeing what you develop as well. keep up the good work. Things like this just add to the great product Antenna already is. Graham

I know about NVU but it gives to much control to my customers. Anyway, you still have to install it and there are setups involved. My solution is easy and can be done in 5 sec flat! I don't know about you but my customers are not computer literate. They will end up deleting the home button or something.

aragornsa, I understand exactly what you are creating here, and I think it is outstanding. This is basically what I was looking for as an enhancement to my storefront script: the ability to display dynamic content in a static HTML website.
When you get this developed properly it would allow users to implement a stock inventory which would link to Mal's shopping cart.
NVU or any other editor is NOT able to do this, this is not about editing HTML content, it's about adding dynamic content to a static website.
Also, changes made to the website using NVU are NOT updated in Antenna's .ata file. SO it really is not that great. By creating the website in Antenna, but updating dynamic content via a server based script you are extending the functionality of Antenna.
Pity this is in PHP, because my server is windows (.ASP), but I have learned that with ASP this is possible using DIVs and ajaxpage('url', 'targetDiv');
I look forward to seeing how this will develop!

I haven't tried it yet, is this a program with a backend where a client can do updates themselves, such as a small blog ect.... If this is what I think it is then You will be a "antennians" dream come true for some of my websites. I have been looking for something like this for a year. It would keep me from having to do a portal system just so my client has a backend for updates.
I look forward to trying it out. Nice work Aragornsa

New System Under Development! I have used the system on the main page of www.kalahariinfo.com and ran into some problems. The background in IE6 was pulled in and I had to fix this by changing the color manually. (Iframe problem with IE6) The flash animations gave a problems with transparency not working. The new system will include the following: Blog: One standard size iframe with background color selector. Everything will run inside the iframe making it very easy to insert and manage. Updating the blog will be from the admin page. You will be able to change font size, color and even add photos for new entries! Page Layout: You will have the ability to decide what can be on each page and give it a name. On the admin page, you will be able to create pages and select contents. The site owner will not have access to this and will only be able to change the contents. The photos, flash and videos will be uploaded to directories on your server. (What I mean is, if you replace a photo on your server, your website will automatically use the new one) This way there is no need for a Iframe. Oh and the best part, the photos will be resized to the required size automatically! Flash and Video, you all know is not that easy! But at least you can replace any picture anywhere and will still be able to use things like popbox! See www.kalahariinfo.com/kathugolf.htm for an example I am also working on a easy code display system that will generate the code you have to put in an iframe (blog and text). Copy and paste! Last but not least a easy setup file that will help you set it up. You will copy the contents to your server. Run the setup file in your browser, type in the database login details and walla, good to go! Once I'm done, I will charge a very small fee for this. Just to cover my development fees and later to add additional fixes and maybe even a directory like the one on kalahariinfo!

The final contents management system is almost done. You can log into it at: www.ezwebs.co.za/admin/index.phpThe username and password is: admin@ezwebs.co.za demo I will post full instructions how to use later but you will see it does output page and file references under the admin page, and you can link to them using: www.ezwebs.co.za/ and the code displayed inside the admin page. Antenna Iframes does not support transparency but I found the Visual HTML can bypass this by using something like this. Open Antenna and create 2 visual html boxes, copy the code below into them and preview: Blog Iframe: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <iframe src="http://www.ezwebs.co.za/blog.php" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" style="top:0; left:0; padding:0; width:100%; height:100%;" name="iframe5" ALLOWTRANSPARENCY=TRUE scrolling="auto"><a href="http://www.ezwebs.co.za/blog.php">http://www.ezwebs.co.za/blog.php</a> </iframe></div> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image code for Visual HTML ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <img id="1" alt="" src="http://www.ezwebs.co.za/images/1_1.jpg" pbshowcaption="true" style="width: 100px; height: 80px;" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am still working on the Blog but the rest is done. It will sell for about $20 I thought I will give the old system for free to everybody! I am still working on my site and will post the links here when I'm done, so keep checking this post! The old system does not have the blog and is not user friendly but you can achieve more or less the same.

Looking good,
Just a few things
what happens if the clients site it is on has a major issue and they have to contact the designer of the site for the ata file again. I presume any updates via your system are lost as it would not have any idea the contents of the original ata file?
Can it only edit current objects on a page?
can you manipulate images and text around the page to place them in different locations?
can you add a complete new text box?
can you add a complete new image?
If you don't have iframes on your pages will it work like other online editors where you can edit any content on the page.
When I paste text from word2007 into the fckeditor using a complete paragraph it goes weird. Looks like it is wrapping div tags or something around it.

Ok Graham I see your concerns! The system was developed to allow the customer to make minor changes and not give them the ability to do major surgery to a site. I made it as easy as can so no Iframes or photos can be moved. They can change the contents of existing Iframes, Photos or Flash. The original idea was to allow a web owner to update things like news, events, adverts and you know small changes. They also do not log in with the username and password I gave you. They will not see the admin page to create pages and contents. Because the changes my system allow is so minor, if something go wrong they can easy replace it and upload the photos and flash files again in no time. If the data is sensitive you can backup the database through PHPAdmin and save the Images directory that contain all the images and flash files. Word contains hidden instructions that get carried over to so rather type or paste text from Notepad! To see how I use it go to www.kalahariinfo.com and look at the first page for example. The owner can update the news and businesses of the week and even upload new adverts in flash or photo! I will release the early system soon so you can play around with it! Pieter

Hi aragornsa,
no concerns just observations thats all. It's looking great.
What about sites you don't wan't iframes on can it be changed the textarea tags instead like most of the other online editors use so it doesn't mess up the site with indexing as we all know the iframe issues and indexing and searching.
With the word import that is built into the fck editor I'm sure that people with use it just because it is there as it is a button on the toolbar.
It would be nice to have the ability to move the objects around just to make the site look a litte different when updated instead of the images and text only changed. (maybe a later version)
Other that those few things it's looking really good

I uploaded the old content manager to my website if anyone is willing to try it. I am still working on the new system and will make it available as soon as Im done. You can download it from my website at: www.ezwebs.co.za The site is still under construction so things are not in place. Let me know what you think!
